In January 2024 the 8th GIBACHT Cohort attended their final workshop in Kampala, Uganda. The workshop was hosted by AFENET, in collaboration with BNITM, Swiss TPH, and RKI. The 14 fellows from 13 countries (Kenya, Nigeria, Namibia, Egypt, Pakistan, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey) had the opportunity to pilot test their table top exercises (case studies) with MPH students from Makerere University, to improve their training skills during interactive sessions, and to learn more about the public health system in Uganda, as well as Uganda's and Germany's outbreak management, in particular of highly pathogenic agents. The workshop also included field trips to local farms together with veterinarians to gain a better understanding of the concept of One Health and zoonotic disease transmission. Overall, the workshop was very well received:

"Preparing a case study has been a great experience. I felt engaged and challenged. I used critical thinking and created something at the end. I believe this was one of the best educational activities I've been part of. Thank you for making this possible." – GIBACHT fellow, Cohort 8

Over the coming months the GIBACHT fellows will implement their case studies at their respective home institutions and complete their fellowship with an implementation report.
